A person who spiked treats with sedative and distributed them to children at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two children who were nine and 10.

The defendant was detained after eight children and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in July.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was kept in jail prior to a subsequent court date on late November.

'Sweet game'

Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She explained his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer program which he managed.

The man conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She stated the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in July 2025.

The legal representative continued: "Recently" his stepchild had suspicions about what was going on, with valid cause.

"They chose" to examine in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC explained objects including lubricant, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his family member alerted the law enforcement about his concerns.

She explained the man went on to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that time," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the incident.

Mrs Prior said the minors were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities once more.

She explained the defendant then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five children.
