Government Official Confirms Ministry of Defence Investigating Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, with Personnel Instructed to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

A defense official has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is actively looking into the potential threats associated with Chinese vehicles, while personnel have been instructed to refrain from talking about secret information in any vehicles.

Safety Advice for Defence Personnel

In a recent appearance on a radio station, a defence minister addressed claims that Ministry of Defence officials have been told not to talk about secret material while travelling in China-made cars.

He said that the ministry is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but stressed that safety is a issue in all contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a collection of thousands of cars in the MoD and those vehicles represent a very small number.
But whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is not to plug Ministry of Defence devices into their car, not to have discussions at a classified classification in any car, because of the increasing threats of surveillance that are present in every single vehicle, to restrict those secret talks in protected areas. This is a prudent and sensible thing for everyone concerned about safety.

When it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using all cars from China, the minister responded: ‘That’s exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Security Background

The revelation comes as claims from Scandinavian countries have alerted the UK to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could enable the Chinese government to switch off public transport and bring disruption to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russia spy ship has been shining laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, described as a “highly dangerous” act by defence officials.

This wider defence situation underscores the significance of strong protocols and caution in all areas of official operations, including vehicle use to discussions practices.
